Provide a little background info about yourself

I grew up in Rhinelander, WI, got a bachelor’s degree in biology at UW-Stevens Point, got my master’s at UMN in the Twin Cities, and then moved to the Madison area to marry my husband, who teaches at Waunakee High School, and pursue my PhD in plant breeding and genetics at UW-Madison. Besides triathlon, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, and an occasional craft project.

How long have you been affiliated with SBR?

I picked up triathlon as a beginner with the UW-Madison club when I started my PhD in the fall of 2014. I’d done some track and cross-country skiing in high school. I’ve kept skiing, but I’ll be returning to the outdoor track for the first time with SBR this summer (no signs of having missed the track yet….).

What is your favorite class, service, or event with SBR?

My favorite part about training with SBR so far is the open water swims, which I did for the first time last summer. I love an outdoor, early morning swim. That said, I’m very much looking forward to getting to know the other athletes now that I’m joining for ‘head out of the water’ activities this summer!

What are your training and/or racing goals this year?

I’m going to race the Midwest Collegiate Conference Olympic-distance races to do my part to get the Badger ladies back on top of the conference standings. In terms of the training, I’m looking forward to improving my triathlon all around, but especially through building strength on the bike.

What is something interesting about yourself that people might not know?

After finishing my master’s degree, I took a “break” and spent a year living in Germany as a cultural ambassador, having received the Congress Bundestag Exchange for Young Professionals fellowship. The year abroad taught me to embrace changes and challenges.
