The Coaches at SBR take a scientific approach to coaching and training for swimming. We provide coached pool sessions all year round and open water swimming practices during the warm summer months.

Is 2017 your first year of dedicated swimming? Or have you swum so long that you've sprouted gills and fins? Whatever your experience and objectives, SBR can provide safe, effective training to improve your performance in open water. SBR's open water swim practices (OWS) are professionally coached sessions that incorporate specific workout objectives, education and training for open water swimming. As an athlete, you will be given specific individual coaching to help you achieve your goals. Group instruction topics include water safety, race strategy and proper form. 

The OWS program offers maximum flexibility in scheduling. 17 weeks with four sessions per week available allows you to have nearly unlimited swim training opportunities. Safety is a key topic of instruction. The OWS program covers stroke analysis, sighting and breathing techniques. You will have individual instruction with form critique.

Early morning and mid-morning OWS classes are held at Fireman's Park in Verona. In mid to late August, practices move to Law Park by Monona Terrace, pending water quality. 

Our OWS program emphasizes:

  • education about safety in open water
  • development of efficient swim technique
  • proper mechanics for injure-free swimming
  • navigation in open water
  • entry and exit strategies for open water racing
  • race preparation and tactics such as drafting, pacing and safety
  • training the mind for open water through motivation and relaxation
  • advice on proper open water equipment for training and racing
  • the fun and joy of swimming

Dates, time and locations - 2017 summer starts May 15th -September 8th

  • Thursdays - 9am - Fireman's Park, Verona

    • NOTE: all practices move to Law Park/Lake Monona early/mid August

Pay monthly $110 per month (first month due to secure pricing).

The Coaches at SBR take a scientific approach to coaching and training for swimming. We believe in providing knowledge, motivation, confidence and support for athlete who want to improve his/her athletic abilities. Swimming is much like goal, it's all about proper technique and efficient to complete the skill well and injury-free.

Coaches Bill will be on deck working with each of you individually as you complete a swim workout to help you reach your potential. You will learn and continue to improve the basics of swimming during the summer with this well designed supplemental pool swim practice. 

Pool practices will be held June 6th through August 24th

Summer practice times (choose one or two days per week)
Tuesdays at 6am
Thursdays at 6am

NOVICE OPEN WATER SWIM PRACTICES
- SUMMER -

Wednesdays, Fireman's Park, Verona - 7pm - 8pm

SBR is once again offering a novice open water swim group. The focus and goals of this weekly swim practice is to provide very basic open water skills for the individual who has very little to no open water experience. The Coaches will work with you from the ground up focusing on water safety, comfort in open water, breathing for calmness, swim stroke, swimming in groups and more. Classes will be held at Fireman's Park in Verona. The water is warm and clear with a fabulous shallow end to work on comfort in the open water. 

Our program is structured to go slow and allow for a smooth transition from pool swimming to open water swimming without the pressure of more experienced swimmers.

Practice will be held on Wednesdays from 7-8:15pm weekly, starting June 7th and will continue through July 26th. Meet at Fireman's Park in Verona.  There will be 8 total class sessions.

The Coaches at SBR take a scientific approach to coaching and training for swimming. We believe in providing knowledge, motivation, confidence and support for athletes who want to improve their athletic abilities. Swimming is much like golf, it's all about proper technique and efficiency to complete the skill well and injury free.  Our main goal is quality versus quantity. We keep our class sizes low so our coach to athlete ratio is in good balance to spend individual time with each athlete.

We don't like calling our swim practices Masters Class. We want to encourage any/all levels to join us. Trust us, at any level, you will get the workout and attention you need. We will be on deck working with each of you individually as you complete a swim workout to help you reach your potential.  You will learn the basics of swimming, how to improve your skills and become a solid, powerful and efficient swimmer.  

This will be a great class for you if you have only spent 10 hours in the pool, or swim 10 hours per week swimming.  The goal is for each swimmer to get the most out any time spent in the pool. Confidence is built with having proper attention from a coach, and workouts to help you reach new levels.

Dates and times - Tuesdays/Thursdays 6am at the Verona High School Natatorium starting October 2016. January 2017 starts session 2.
