SBR CO-OWNER
B.S., ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
M.S., SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT
Mark Kochanski is a co-owner of SBR Endurance Performance Center.
Growing up, Mark played football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling. Football was his best sport–he was a two-time varsity letter winner and was named All-County and All-Conference First Team.
Back in 1982, he watched the Wide World of Sports coverage of Ironman, the Julie Moss race. He told himself and friends that he was going to do an Ironman someday.
In 1984, he participated in his first triathlon, what today would be considered a sprint tri. This was at Warner Park in Madison. He DNFed the race that day because he flatted on the bike and couldn't repair it. After this, he lived in Southern California for a few years and participated in many of the Bud Light triathlons. Not many people did these, but he met Mark Allen, Dave Scott, Julie Moss, and many others.
Then, when Ironman picked up Madison as one of its locations, he just had to do it. He’s done seven Ironman Wisconsin events, and in 2004, he got a lottery slot at the Ironman World Championships where he finished the grueling race in just over 14 hours.
He got connected with SBR through his girlfriend (now wife), Tammy, who was taking PBC classes. She had talked him into riding in the Winter Cycling Relay Challenge one year. He really enjoyed it, so he started doing Saturday PBC at SBR. Tammy, then, got involved with teaching some of the PBC classes. Mark was a USAT-certified coach from 2010-2020, and he has subbed and worked many special events at SBR over the years.
Mark appreciates that SBR athletes are like family and friends. SBR is about athletes becoming the best athletes they can be in whatever sport they want to excel in, and everyone can be themselves.
